About the role
Role overview
Join the Gospel Library Online team as a Senior Front-End Developer (Next.js / React) on a 12-month remote contract (MST hours). You will help expand front-end capacity and lead a major modernization effort, refactoring a legacy HTML/CSS/JavaScript codebase into a Next.js + React architecture.
Responsibilities
- Refactor legacy front-end applications into a modern Next.js + React architecture
- Build high-quality, maintainable front-end features and reusable components
- Participate in two-week Scrum sprints, providing story point estimates and committing to deliverables
- Maintain and prioritize the product backlog of features and bugs
- Create technical prototypes and proofs of concept for architectural decisions
- Collaborate with Solution Manager(s) to improve functionality, reliability, and performance
- Support development tooling, infrastructure, and team processes
- Contribute to release roadmaps and provide regular progress/cost/completion reporting
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience
- Strong proficiency in Next.js and React
- Solid modern front-end development experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript
- Experience with AWS serverless technologies (e.g., Lambda, S3, CloudFront)
- Familiarity with CDNs
- Experience working in Scrum with two-week sprints; able to estimate accurately and deliver commitments
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Bonus skills
- Experience modernizing legacy front-end codebases
- Experience with large-scale content platforms or digital libraries
- Knowledge of performance optimization and accessibility best practices
