Front End Developer (Network Background)

Role Overview

Front End Software Engineer to build and enhance a web-based platform that helps network engineers design, visualize, and manage complex virtual network topologies. You’ll collaborate with backend engineers, network architects, and UX designers to turn networking concepts into intuitive, high-performance UI.

Responsibilities

• Interactive network visualization:
  • Develop and maintain the topology canvas for creating, modifying, and visualizing virtual network environments
  • Implement drag-and-drop, node management, link creation, and real-time topology updates
  • Create clear visualizations that simplify complex networking concepts
• Front-end application development:
  • Build scalable, responsive web applications with modern JavaScript frameworks
  • Create reusable components and UI libraries for networking workflows
  • Partner with UX to deliver a modern, accessible UI
• API & data integration:
  • Integrate with backend services via REST APIs and real-time communication
  • Display simulation telemetry, node status, configuration data, and system health
  • Keep UI state reliably synchronized with backend simulation engines
• Performance optimization:
  • Optimize rendering and browser performance for large topologies (hundreds of nodes)
  • Improve responsiveness, memory usage, and user interaction performance
  • Troubleshoot front-end bottlenecks and apply scalable design patterns
• Cross-functional collaboration:
  • Work with backend, QA, and product stakeholders
  • Participate in architecture discussions and technical design reviews
  • Contribute to Agile development and continuous improvement

Requirements

• MUST HAVE networking knowledge (CCNA-level valuable): routing, switching, network topology design, and simulation environments
• Professional experience: 3+ years in front-end software development
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3
• Experience developing with React (also mentions Vue.js or Angular)
• TypeScript experience in enterprise-scale applications
• Experience integrating RESTful APIs and consuming real-time data streams
• Experience with modern state management: Redux, Pinia, or NgRx
• Ability to build responsive and accessible UIs
• Strong debugging/troubleshooting and performance optimization skills

Nice to Have

• Data visualization & UI performance for large-scale interactive visualizations using Canvas, SVG, D3.js, Cytoscape.js, or similar

Contract & Location

• Contract position based in Raleigh, NC
• Pay range: $50.00–$60.00/hr (eligibility and benefits depend on classification and length of employment)
