About the role
Role Overview
Mindrift is seeking a Freelance Mobile App Developer (iOS / Android) to join the Tendem project. This role (called an “AI Pilot” at Mindrift) involves collaborating with AI agents for repetitive tasks, while you apply mobile engineering expertise to deliver stable, performant, production-ready mobile apps for real users.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and refine mobile applications for categories such as utilities, fitness/wellness, games, productivity, delivery, and content apps
- Build apps using React Native, Flutter, Swift (iOS), or Kotlin (Android)
- Create responsive UIs that follow platform conventions (iOS HIG, Material Design)
- Integrate native device capabilities: camera, push notifications, location, storage, biometrics
- Connect to backend APIs; implement offline handling, caching, and synchronization
- Implement monetization features when needed: in-app purchases, ads, subscriptions
- Evaluate and refactor AI-generated mobile code for correctness, performance, battery usage, and maintainability
- Debug platform-specific issues and prepare builds for distribution (TestFlight, Play Console)
Requirements
- At least 3 years of relevant mobile app development experience (required)
- Strong foundation in mobile UI/UX patterns, navigation, and building stable, high-quality experiences
- Hands-on experience with at least one of:
- React Native
- Flutter
- Swift/SwiftUI (iOS)
- Kotlin/Jetpack Compose (Android)
- Ability to integrate REST APIs, handle async data, and manage local storage
- Familiarity with native device APIs (notifications, camera, location, storage, biometrics)
- Experience with mobile build/release workflows including code signing and App Store / Google Play submission
- Portfolio of shipped mobile apps (required; App Store / Google Play links preferred)
- English proficiency (B2 or above) (required)
Nice to Haves
- Experience implementing in-app purchases, ads, or subscriptions
- Familiarity with backend services such as Firebase or Supabase
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS/Engineering/IT or related field
Time & Work Expectations
- Estimated 10–20 hours/week during active project phases (estimate; not a guaranteed workload)
Compensation
- Up to $60/hour (hourly, up to ceiling stated)
