Freelance Lead Web Developer & Technical Consultant

Role Overview

Freelance Lead Web Developer & Technical Consultant to act as a client-facing strategic technical partner. You’ll work in two phases: pre-sales scoping/quoting and post-sale full-site execution from kickoff to launch.

Responsibilities

Phase 1: Tech Consulting & Quoting (Pre-Sales)

• Review client design briefs, sitemaps, and wireframes to identify technical requirements, risks, and limitations.
• Provide accurate development hour/cost estimations for custom web designs.
• Recommend technical architecture for proposals (e.g., app integrations, custom CMS data mapping).

Phase 2: Full-Site Development & Launch (Post-Sale)

• Shopify execution: Translate high-fidelity Figma designs into fully responsive, custom Shopify websites.
• Dynamic CMS architecture: Build modular, flexible CMS setups using modern Shopify features such as:
  • Metafields and Metaobjects
  • Custom sections
• Design QA integration: Work with the design team in a staging environment to iterate until the build is pixel-perfect to Figma.
• Quality assurance: Lead functional QA, cross-browser/device testing, and manage migration/launch.
• Handoff & support: Provide basic CMS documentation/guides and include a 30-day post-launch bug support window.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in Shopify, including Liquid templating, Metaobjects, Metafields, and theme customization.
• Ability to build bespoke layouts without relying on bloated/rigid third-party themes.
• Expert-level HTML5, CSS3, Sass, and modern JavaScript.
• Proven ability to translate complex Figma designs into clean, semantic, performance-optimized code.
• Experience scoping and estimating projects (e.g., working with agencies/consulting clients) including identifying potential technical hurdles.
• Exceptional English communication skills to explain technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders.
