About the role
Role Overview
Playlab is hiring a Fractional Product Manager (EdTech Deployment) on a time-limited engagement. You will help Playlab close the gap between fast-growing partnerships and product infrastructure by designing how the platform works for institutions at scale (districts, schools, ministries) and individuals (teachers, coaches).
Responsibilities
- Domain Model Design
- Design a domain model that supports both institutions and individuals.
- Clarify relationships between users, organizations, apps, and permissions as the platform scales.
- Ensure the model supports current partnerships while allowing flexibility for future growth.
- Administrative Controls
- Specify institution admin controls for user management, app distribution, usage reporting, and content governance.
- Balance institutional oversight with educator agency (administrative visibility without over-restricting what makes Playlab effective).
- Prioritize what matters most by partnering with the partnerships team on deployment blockers.
- Rostering & Data Integration
- Define requirements for roster data flows into and out of Playlab at scale.
- Specify integration patterns across K-12 data fragmentation (e.g., Clever, ClassLink, OneRoster, custom exports).
- Design flows that reduce manual work for IT administrators and partnership teams.
- Execution Support
- Work closely with the CTO, engineering team, partnerships team, and designers to define requirements.
- Help shepherd implementation.
Requirements
- Experience shipping rostering, SSO, or admin features for products used in K-12 schools or districts.
- Understanding of edtech procurement, IT administration, and classroom deployment.
- Ability to translate institutional requirements into clear product specs without over-engineering.
- Can write buildable requirements (specific, not vague).
- Comfortable making decisions with imperfect information in a fast-moving environment.
- Genuine interest in education and scaling a mission-driven product responsibly.
Nice to Have
- Experience with SIS integrations (Clever, ClassLink, OneRoster) and/or identity management in education.
- Background working with districts or state/ministry-level education deployments.
- Familiarity with education data privacy requirements (e.g., FERPA and state student privacy laws).
- Experience at early-stage edtech companies.
