Founding Engineer

Role Overview

Founding Engineer at Reia. Build the “layer after Excel” for institutional finance—an agentic system that manages real underwriting artifacts (sources, evidence, assumptions, model logic, statements, dashboards, review history, and memos) inside a shared deal state.

What You’ll Build

• End-to-end product engineering across:
  • Backend systems & APIs
  • Frontend interfaces
  • Model runtimes and publishing of financial model packages
  • Source provenance (evidence/traceability)
  • Agent tools and data extraction
  • Review workflows and underwriting operating system surfaces
• Underlying system: uw, a modeling kernel for agents/applications to inspect, author, validate, replay, and publish financial model packages.
• Help turn ambiguous underwriting workflows into clear, reliable, inspectable software.

Required Strengths (Across Several Areas)

• Python and TypeScript
• React (product/frontend engineering)
• Backend systems and APIs
• Data modeling and databases
• Financial models (or model-like systems)
• LLM / agent tool infrastructure
• Document parsing/extraction and source provenance
• Systems that must be correct, inspectable, and reliable

Hiring Bar & Approach

• Real estate domain knowledge is not required on day one.
• The role prioritizes evidence of exceptional work (e.g., strong open-source, infrastructure projects, research systems, serious side projects, or unusually fast execution) over credentials.

How You’ll Work

• Founding role working directly with the founder.
• Own core product surface area, make architecture decisions, talk to users, and ship production software.

Location / Logistics

• Fully remote.
• Quarterly weeklong in-person hackathons.

Compensation

• $250k–$333k cash, plus founding-level equity.
