About the role
Role overview
Join GitLab as a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer at the intersection of customer outcomes, product direction, and hands-on engineering. You’ll help strategic enterprise accounts adopt GitLab and the GitLab Duo Agent Platform in complex environments.
Key missions
- Conduct deep technical discovery for selected strategic accounts to assess platform readiness, evaluate constraints, and identify high-value adoption opportunities across GitLab and the Duo Agent Platform.
- Lead architecture and delivery design for complex enterprise environments, especially where platform migration, regulated requirements, and product boundaries intersect.
- Design and build bounded proofs, prototypes, deployment patterns, and reusable accelerators across:
- Source code management
- CI/CD
- Security and compliance
- AI-enabled workflows
Requirements
- Strong systems design and software architecture skills, including evaluating APIs, asynchronous workflows, CI/CD systems, security boundaries, scalability, and operational tradeoffs.
- Proven ability to create reusable technical assets that last beyond a single engagement, plus strong written and verbal communication.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and enterprise deployment tooling such as Terraform, Ansible, Helm, or similar.
- Experience in software engineering / platform architecture / forward deployed engineering / technical consulting (customer-facing engineering).
- Working knowledge of large language models, agentic patterns, tool orchestration, and practical limits of AI in production.
- Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, including pipeline design, YAML, runners, and GitLab APIs.
- Comfort leading conversations with senior stakeholders across security, compliance, engineering, platform, and business teams.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals for production systems; ideally experience with Ruby on Rails and/or Go.
