Forward Deployed Engineer

Role overview

Join GitLab as a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer working at the intersection of customer outcomes, product direction, and hands-on engineering. You’ll focus on strategic accounts in the AMER region, helping enterprises adopt GitLab and the GitLab Duo Agent Platform.

Key missions

• Conduct deep technical discovery in selected strategic accounts to assess platform readiness, identify constraints, and find high-value adoption opportunities across GitLab and the Duo Agent Platform.
• Lead architecture and delivery design for complex enterprise environments where platform migration, regulated requirements, and product boundaries intersect.
• Design and build bounded proofs, prototypes, deployment patterns, and reusable accelerators to enable scalable adoption.
• Turn recurring field patterns into reusable assets such as runbooks, templates, design notes, technical guidance, product briefs, and reference architectures.

Requirements

• Infrastructure as Code and enterprise deployment tooling (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Helm, or similar).
• Proven ability to create reusable technical assets that outlast a single engagement; strong written and verbal communication.
• Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, including pipeline design, YAML, runners, and GitLab APIs.
• Strong systems design and software architecture skills, including evaluating APIs, asynchronous workflows, CI/CD systems, security boundaries, scalability, and operational tradeoffs.
• Ability to lead discussions with senior stakeholders across security, compliance, engineering, platform, and business teams in ambiguous enterprise contexts.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals; ideally experience with Ruby on Rails and/or Go.
• Experience in forward deployed engineering / technical consulting / customer-facing platform architecture roles.
• Working knowledge of large language models, agentic patterns, and tool orchestration, including practical limitations of AI in production.
