FinOps Engineer

Role overview

Join Storable’s Platform Engineering and DevOps team as a FinOps Engineer. This fully remote role focuses on cloud cost optimization, financial accountability, and operational excellence across multi-cloud infrastructure. You’ll bridge engineering and finance by turning usage and billing data into insights, recommendations, and actions that improve both infrastructure efficiency and business outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Implement cloud cost visibility via tagging strategies, cost allocation models, and billing analysis across multi-cloud environments.
• Drive cost optimization through reserved instances, savings plans, right-sizing recommendations, and architectural improvements.
• Build and automate FinOps processes including cost forecasting, anomaly detection, and budget management.
• Collaborate with Platform Engineering, DevOps, and product teams to balance cost with performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Create and maintain dashboards and reports for cloud spend trends, forecasts, and cost drivers for engineering and finance.
• Define and refine FinOps governance (policies, guardrails, and best practices) to ensure cloud cost discipline.
• Align cloud investments with business objectives by partnering closely with technical and financial stakeholders.
• Use AI-powered analytics/automation to surface optimization opportunities and detect cloud spend anomalies.
• Analyze usage patterns and help teams run experiments/pilots to validate optimization approaches while protecting customer experience.

Requirements

• 3+ years experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering roles.
• Proven experience applying FinOps / cloud cost optimization in production environments.
• Proficiency with at least one major cloud billing/cost analysis tool: AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, or GCP Billing.
• Scripting/programming skills to automate FinOps workflows (e.g., Python, Bash, or Go).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret billing data and infrastructure metrics.
• Clear communication skills with the ability to explain technical and financial concepts cross-functionally in a remote environment.

Nice to have

• Multi-cloud experience (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Familiarity with FinOps Foundation and FOCUS billing taxonomy.
• Experience with monitoring/observability tools (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus).
• Background in financial analysis/accounting/business intelligence.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and modern version control workflows.
• FinOps Practitioner or major cloud provider cost management certification.
