About the role
Role Overview
The Finance Segment Manager leads finance management across logistics operations, providing financial analysis, planning, and reporting to support corporate and operational goals. You will partner with senior finance leadership and operational stakeholders (e.g., logistics managers and direct customer logistics teams) to improve financial performance, ensure compliance, and drive efficiency.
Responsibilities
Month-End Closing & Financial Reporting
- Manage journal entries, review general ledger research, and capture billing opportunities
- Handle expense/revenue accruals, fixed asset classification and depreciation, and deferred revenue
- Provide variance explanations vs. forecast and support annual plan review
- Ensure financial integrity of location results across headquarters and field teams
- Oversee customer invoicing, revenue posting, and monitor monthly aging reports
- Apply knowledge of inventory metrics and reserve accruals as needed
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Produce account overview analysis for leadership using key financial metrics
- Develop and manage forecasting, business planning, and branch performance analysis
- Perform monthly forecasting and annual planning
Operational Initiatives
- Partner with Direct Customer Logistics (DCL), Group Logistics Manager (GLM), and Logistics Manager (LM) to identify cost and productivity improvement opportunities
- Serve as a financial advisor to General Managers and operations teams
- Apply working knowledge of supply chain management and transportation/logistics processes
Financial Coordination of Contracts
- Support new account startups, internal controls, billing procedures, and customer reporting processes
- Assess financial risks/rewards and maintain financial integrity in contract management
- Understand KPI processes and pain/gain share
Compliance & Training
- Conduct operations audits to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance
- Provide financial training to operations staff on policies, procedures, and financial tools
- Liaise with Ryder Shared Services Center and Ryder Corporate Accounting
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA/Finance preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in finance/accounting functions, including:
- Inventory Management and Controls, Financial Analysis and Planning, Financial Reporting
- Accounts Payable/Receivable, Fixed Assets (depreciation/useful life), Deferred Revenue and Billing
- Strong understanding of income statements, balance sheets, and financial metrics
- Advanced Excel skills (large data sets, lookups, SUMIFs, pivot tables, filtering, waterfall charts)
- Intermediate MS Word and MS PowerPoint skills for complete presentation development
- Experience leveraging AI (e.g., Copilot) for analysis and creating financial workpapers/templates
- Functional knowledge of WMS systems and understanding of supply chain/logistics processes
