About the role

Federal Platform Engineer (Full Remote)

Join Horizon3 to lead the deployment and operation of product infrastructure in multiple federal environments, including FedRAMP and Classified workloads.

Responsibilities

  • Lead deployment and ongoing operation of product infrastructure across multiple federal environments.
  • Implement scalable, secure, resilient cloud-native application platforms for core company services.
  • Identify, design, and deploy improvements to development and deployment processes so engineers can deploy with confidence.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or related roles.
  • Ability to manage concurrent initiatives and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong solution design and “flow” understanding.
  • Excellent analytical/problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication.
  • Creative, self-motivated, pragmatic, disciplined, detail- and results-oriented.
  • Ability to possess or obtain and maintain Top Secret security clearance (required).
  • US Citizen required.

Technical Skills (Required/Strongly Preferred)

  • AWS Core Services.
  • Kubernetes ecosystem and tooling: Argo Events, Argo Workflows, Argo CD.
  • Event-driven architecture (e.g., SQS, EventBus).
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform (Crossplane also mentioned).
  • Configuration management: Ansible.
  • CI/CD: GitLab CI/CD.
  • Compute: EC2, Lambda, EKS.
  • Container engine: Docker.
  • Secret management: HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, External Secrets Operator.
  • Database: Aurora/RDS with Postgres.
  • SSO/user management: OIDC, SAML, Okta (and related patterns).
  • Shell scripting.
  • Security: IAM roles/policies, KMS, CloudTrail.
  • Networking: VPC, VPCe, Route 53.
  • Logging/metrics: Datadog, OpenSearch.
  • Kubernetes variants mentioned: RKE2, K3S, EKS.
  • Programming: Go (GoLang required); Python is a plus.
  • Secret/identity UX components: Cognito and Organizations.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with FedRAMP, CC SRG, NIST 800-53, and/or ATO (Authority to Operate) processes.
  • Experience using Claude Code or other AI-enabled development tooling.
  • MS in Computer Science.
  • Bachelors in Computer Science or STEM (or equivalent).

Location & Travel

  • Fully remote.
  • Up to ~5% travel may be required.
  • Job-related travel expenses are reviewed and require manager approval.
