About the role
Role Overview
Epic Architect (Part-Time, Advisory) — fully remote from Canada.
You will be the “Epic voice” for a founding team building an enterprise healthcare platform (in stealth) that involves upstream workflow and revenue cycle challenges for health systems. This is a pure advisory engagement (no code/build work), with an initial short-term scope and potential for future fractional engagements as the product matures.
Responsibilities
- Review the current prototype and deliver a structured technical assessment from an Epic-informed perspective.
- Identify which workstreams to prioritize first based on Epic-side complexity and risk.
- Advise on bidirectional Epic integration patterns, including FHIR and HL7 considerations.
- Surface practical Epic realities the non-Epic team may miss, including:
- access
- data exchange
- governance
- common pitfalls
- Provide ad hoc input during investor, LOI, and early customer conversations where Epic context is needed.
Requirements (Mandatory)
- Active or past Epic certification (active preferred; lapsed acceptable with strong recent hands-on experience).
- Significant experience within a health system Epic environment as an architect, integration lead, or comparable senior role.
- Hands-on experience with bidirectional Epic integration, including reading from and writing to the patient record.
- Strong working knowledge of FHIR and HL7.
- Strong communication skills to translate Epic complexity for non-Epic audiences.
- Comfort operating in a fractional/advisory capacity with a small founding team.
Nice-to-Haves
- Exposure to other major EMRs such as Cerner and eClinicalWorks.
- Background in revenue cycle management or upstream clinical/operational workflows.
- Experience advising early-stage health tech companies.
Engagement / Logistics
- Part-time and fully remote.
- Candidate can be based anywhere in Canada, but must overlap with Eastern Time business hours for working sessions.
- Background checks required before start date (if selected).
