About the role
Role Overview
Epic Architect (Part-Time, Advisory) for a remote healthcare technology product in stealth. You will be the team’s primary Epic subject-matter expert—reviewing a prototype, advising on integration realities, and helping prioritize the next phase. This is a pure advisory engagement with no code/build work, and may evolve into additional fractional engagements as the product matures.
Responsibilities
- Review the current prototype and provide a structured technical assessment from an Epic-informed perspective
- Identify which workstreams to prioritize first based on Epic-side complexity and risk
- Advise on bidirectional Epic integration patterns, including FHIR and HL7 considerations
- Surface practical Epic realities for planning, such as:
- access
- data exchange
- governance
- common pitfalls
- Provide ad hoc input during investor, LOI, and early customer conversations when Epic context is needed
Requirements (Mandatory)
- Active or past Epic certification (active preferred; lapsed acceptable with strong recent hands-on experience)
- Significant experience within a health system Epic environment as an architect, integration lead, or comparable senior role
- Hands-on experience with bidirectional Epic integration, including reading from and writing to the patient record
- Strong working knowledge of FHIR and HL7
- Strong communication skills to translate Epic complexity for a non-Epic audience
- Comfort working in a fractional, advisory capacity with a small founding team
Nice-to-Have
- Exposure to other EMRs such as Cerner and eClinicalWorks
- Background in revenue cycle management or upstream clinical/operational workflows
- Experience advising early-stage health tech companies
Logistics
- Part-time, fully remote; candidate can be based anywhere in Canada
- Variable cadence; overlap with Eastern Time business hours required for working sessions
