About the role
Role overview
You’ll serve as the Epic voice for an early-stage enterprise healthcare platform (stealth mode). This is a purely advisory role with no code or build work, focused on reviewing an existing prototype and advising on Epic integration, complexity, and sequencing.
The engagement is part-time and fully remote, with the candidate able to be based anywhere in Canada. You must be available to overlap with Eastern Time for working sessions.
Responsibilities
- Review the current prototype and provide a structured technical assessment from an Epic-informed perspective
- Identify and prioritize workstreams based on Epic-side complexity and risk
- Advise on bidirectional Epic integration patterns, including FHIR and HL7 considerations
- Surface practical Epic realities for planning, such as:
- access
- data exchange
- governance
- common pitfalls
- Provide ad hoc Epic input during early-stage conversations (e.g., investors, LOIs, and early customer discussions)
Requirements (mandatory)
- Active or past Epic certification (active preferred; lapsed acceptable with strong recent hands-on experience)
- Significant experience working in an Epic environment as an architect, integration lead, or comparable senior role
- Hands-on bidirectional Epic integration experience, including reading from and writing to the patient record
- Strong working knowledge of FHIR and HL7
- Strong communication skills to translate Epic complexity for a non-Epic audience
- Comfort working in a fractional, advisory capacity with a small founding team
Nice to have
- Exposure to other major EMRs such as Cerner and eClinicalWorks
- Background in revenue cycle management or upstream clinical/operational workflows
- Experience advising early-stage health tech companies
