About the role
Role overview
You will act as the Epic Architect (Part-Time, Advisory) for a stealth-stage healthcare technology platform. The engagement is advisory only (no code/build work), focused on reviewing a working prototype and helping the founding team prioritize next steps.
Responsibilities
- Review the current prototype and produce a structured technical assessment from an Epic-informed perspective.
- Identify which workstreams to prioritize first based on Epic-side complexity and risk.
- Advise on bidirectional Epic integration patterns, including FHIR and HL7 considerations.
- Surface practical Epic realities around access, data exchange, and governance, including common pitfalls.
- Provide ad hoc Epic context during investor, LOI, and early customer conversations.
Requirements
- Active or past Epic certification (active preferred; lapsed acceptable with strong recent hands-on experience).
- Significant experience working inside an Epic health system environment as an architect/integration lead or comparable senior role.
- Hands-on experience with bidirectional Epic integration, including reading from and writing to the patient record.
- Strong working knowledge of FHIR and HL7.
- Strong communication skills, able to explain Epic complexity to non-Epic stakeholders.
- Comfort with fractional advisory work with a small founding team.
Nice-to-haves
- Exposure to other major EMRs such as Cerner and eClinicalWorks.
- Background in revenue cycle management or upstream clinical/operational workflows.
- Experience advising early-stage health tech companies.
Logistics
- Fully remote; candidate can be based anywhere in Canada.
- Variable cadence; must overlap with Eastern Time during working sessions.
