About the role
Role Overview
You’ll serve as an Epic Architect (advisory) for a stealth-stage healthcare technology platform. The role is part-time and fully remote for a candidate based anywhere in Canada, with working-session overlap with Eastern Time.
Responsibilities
- Review the current prototype and deliver a structured technical assessment from an Epic-informed perspective
- Identify and prioritize which workstreams to tackle first based on Epic-side complexity and risk
- Advise on bidirectional Epic integration patterns, including FHIR and HL7 considerations
- Surface practical Epic realities (e.g., access, data exchange, governance, and common pitfalls)
- Provide ad hoc Epic context during investor, LOI, and early customer conversations
Engagement Details
- Pure advisory: no code and no build work
- Short-term initial advisory engagement with potential future fractional engagements as the product matures
Requirements (Mandatory)
- Active or past Epic certification (active preferred; lapsed acceptable with strong recent hands-on experience)
- Significant experience working inside a health system Epic environment as an architect, integration lead, or similarly senior role
- Hands-on experience with bidirectional Epic integration, including reading from and writing to the patient record
- Strong working knowledge of FHIR and HL7
- Strong communication skills; ability to translate Epic complexity for non-Epic audiences
- Comfort delivering advisory guidance with a small founding team
Nice to Have
- Exposure to other major EMRs like Cerner and eClinicalWorks
- Background in revenue cycle management or upstream clinical/operational workflows
- Experience advising early-stage health tech companies
