Program Overview

Role: Entry Level UX Research Apprenticeship
Duration: 7 months
Cohorts: Fall or spring, and also online options
Commitment: 5–10 hours/week for deliverables
Mentorship: 1:1 mentorship throughout the program

What Apprentices Work On

End-to-end UX design and UX research for a startup idea of the apprentice’s choice.
Build portfolio-ready artifacts and prepare to attract hiring managers in the chosen topic/industry.

Learning & Responsibilities (End-to-End)

Lead (0–1) the end-to-end design process for a chosen startup idea/topic
Do product and feature scoping and participate in project management
Identify and position the target market for product launch success
Incorporate AI tools into the UX design process
Design AI features with ethical AI considerations and user trust in mind
Develop a business model and explain how the product/service scales
Run discovery research:
- Manage user recruitment
- Create research plans
- Write interview guides
- Conduct 8–16 discovery interviews
- Synthesize insights
Produce a UX design + business pitch using qualitative and quantitative evidence
Create user-centered deliverables (examples):
- Personas, stakeholder maps, journey maps
- Process maps, service blueprints
- Ideation matrixes
- Sketches, wireframes, UX workflows, prototypes
Conduct user testing of wireframes/prototypes and iterate
Build a design system from scratch (components, style guide, branding)
Analyze competitors and articulate differentiators
Consult with startups to complete UX research/design work based on an agreed scope

Requirements

Open to new grads and UX career changers
Interested in creative paths in UX research / UX design / product design / service design
Willing to:
- Commit 5–10 hours/week
- Attend 2–3 hour weekend lectures OR complete online video course modules
Willing to receive feedback from UX mentors and revise work

About UX Woman

UX Woman runs a mentorship-based UX apprenticeship program that sponsors early-career apprentices to work through end-to-end UX design and UX research. The program is designed to help women, immigrants, people of color, and LGBTQ+ candidates break into tech and pursue six-figure UX roles.
