Role overview

Engineering Supervisor / Safety Technology Implementation Lead (field-based)

Tended is looking for an experienced railway professional to act as the on-site bridge between Tended and its clients. You’ll lead key deployments of Tended’s safety technology (geofencing) and coach rail teams to use the kit confidently in day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

Lead and support client deployments of Tended’s safety technology on the ground.
Work closely with Tended project managers to deliver an excellent client service.
Build fast, trusting relationships with site teams; communicate clearly with a wide range of user technical confidence.
Develop deep product knowledge to coach users through on-site, day-to-day challenges until they can use the system independently.
Observe real-world usage and identify improvement ideas, feeding learnings back to the team.
Operate with accuracy by following established processes and procedures.

Requirements

Strong knowledge and experience within the rail environment and roles such as ES, ESA, COSS, PICOP, or similar.
Experience in an on-site leadership role (e.g., Site Agent) within rail or a related industry.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to influence site teams.
Comfortable with technology and enthusiastic to build an in-depth understanding of the product for on-site support.
Proactive problem-solving mindset with initiative to find and fix issues.
Must hold a Personal Track Safety (PTS) qualification or meet requirements to obtain one.
Full driving licence required.

Nice to have

Practical, hands-on experience delivering new technologies on-site to different user groups.
Experience using project management tools and/or familiarity with project management disciplines.

Travel & working pattern

Field-based role with regular client site visits across the Sussex region.
At least 3 days per week in the depot/on-site; remaining time remote and/or with your line manager.
Covers night shifts and day shifts, including weekends and bank holidays; flexibility required.
Includes strong policies for travel, accommodation, subsistence, fatigue management, and time off in lieu.

Tended builds first-of-a-kind safety systems for rail workers, with a focus on geofencing-based solutions that help keep people away from the running line. Its safety technology is already used on the track and is being rolled out with long-term commitment from Network Rail, including deployments across regions such as Sussex.
