Engineering Manager (Services)

Role Overview

As an Engineering Manager (Services) at Slice, you will lead a team of engineers building backend systems, APIs, and production operational capabilities that power the platform. You’ll partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Operations to identify valuable problems and define success through measurable impact.

Key Missions

• Turn ambiguity into direction by identifying valuable problems and guiding the team toward clear priorities.
• Build and manage a high-performing engineering team through mentorship, support, and accountability.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to define success and guide architecture and engineering decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineering execution and team performance.
• Drive technical judgment across backend services, APIs, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and production operations.
• Influence reliability, security, performance, and service migration strategy.
• Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Strong expertise in APIs, distributed systems, and asynchronous workflows.
• Experience with databases, AWS, observability, and production operations.
• Familiarity with service migrations, reliability, security, and performance.
• Comfortable leading teams working with Python, Go, and/or Ruby services.
• Proven experience managing high-performing engineering teams.
• Ability to resolve complex, ambiguous problems into actionable direction.
