Engineering Manager (Service Platform)

Role Overview

Instacart is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Service Platform team. You will lead the development of core deployment and release engineering systems that improve reliability and enable fast, safe iteration across Instacart’s services.

Key Missions / Responsibilities

• Lead the Service Platform team owning Instacart’s deployment and release engineering capabilities.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and service engineering teams to define and evolve a platform for fast iteration without compromising reliability.
• Set vision and drive execution to ensure engineers have world-class tooling to:
  • deploy services
  • validate releases
  • monitor and operate systems
• Ensure the platform directly supports Instacart’s overall stability and engineering velocity.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience leading and managing people, with the ability to go deep into designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
• 7+ years of software development experience in one or more programming languages.
• Strong standards and track record for production reliability.
• Proven ability to launch and ship high-impact products (bonus: internal/developer-facing products).
• Strong communication skills; can contextualize problems for different audiences.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and engage the right stakeholders to resolve issues efficiently.
• Experience building platforms and working with high-scale infrastructure.
• Skilled at building and shipping products to users.
