About the role

Role overview

Join Plaid as an Engineering Manager for Security Engineering. You will lead a team of security engineers, build and operate foundational security capabilities, and partner with cross-functional engineering leaders to drive the roadmap for Plaid’s security platform capabilities.

Key missions

  • Lead and mentor a team of security engineers, fostering a high-performance, collaborative, and psychologically safe culture.
  • Own the technical roadmap and strategic direction for core security capabilities across:
    • encryption
    • authentication/authorization (authN/authZ)
    • CI/CD security
    • data security
    • network security
  • Partner with product and platform engineering to deliver scalable, self-service security infrastructure across teams with different security maturity levels.
  • Represent the team’s work to senior leadership and drive pragmatic security decisions that preserve developer velocity.

Requirements

  • 8–14 years overall software engineering experience, with ~6+ years in engineering management.
  • Strong software engineering background; ability to understand, evaluate, and guide work across auth systems, encryption, identity/access services, and related security domains.
  • Experience managing engineers in a security, platform, or infrastructure context.
  • Hands-on experience building scalable capabilities such as:
    • user and service authN/authZ
    • encryption/secrets management
    • internal identity management
    • in an AWS and Kubernetes (K8s) environment.
  • Experience architecting security capabilities and controls with developer experience principles.
  • Strong influence and stakeholder skills (drive maturity gains via influence, not authority).
  • Empathetic communication and strong cross-functional relationship building.
  • Fintech or high-technology experience adjacent to payments/financial services.

Nice-to-haves / additional signals

  • Familiarity with AI security and governance risk controls designed to preserve developer velocity.
  • Experience securing AI/ML/Agentic platforms (e.g., tool-calling, MCPs, service identities).
  • Track record building scalable platform paved roads used broadly across product-focused engineering organizations.
