Role Overview

Thrive Market is seeking an Engineering Manager, Product Engineering to lead a product engineering pod. You’ll translate product strategy into technical execution, guiding engineers to deliver high-quality features that improve the end-to-end e-commerce grocery experience—especially around areas like cart/checkout, recurring shipments, and personalization.

Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and develop engineers with regular feedback, actionable growth plans, and constructive performance management
Build and retain a high-performing team with ownership of team-level outcomes and OKRs; drive accountability, initiative, and continuous improvement
Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Analytics to set priorities and deliver customer- and business-impacting features
Ensure predictable, on-time delivery by establishing processes, tracking progress with metrics, and proactively communicating with stakeholders
Guide technical decisions within the pod to promote scalable, maintainable, reliable systems
Maintain quality through code reviews, design reviews, testing, and automation to ensure reliability and customer trust
Identify risks and opportunities; drive initiatives that improve engineering effectiveness and long-term scalability

Requirements

2+ years in engineering management/people leadership (supervising engineers, performance reviews, mentoring, addressing underperformance)
10+ years software engineering experience with significant technical contributions and ownership of services/components
Experience delivering software with predictability and quality, including:
- Design reviews
- CI/CD pipelines
- Automated testing
- Monitoring
Proven track record delivering outcomes aligned to business/product goals using OKRs/metrics
Strong cross-functional collaboration and ability to communicate technical and non-technical viewpoints
Ability to lead architecture and design conversations and ensure maintainability and scalability
Strong organizational/process skills (delivery cadence, removing blockers, improving productivity)
Ownership mindset for continuous improvement and change
Technical depth to review code/design and influence technical direction even if not coding daily

Nice to Have

Experience scaling engineering organizations (evolving processes)
Domain expertise in e-commerce
Experience with legacy systems
Experience defining and owning technology/process that supports scalability
