About the role

Role Overview

Platphorm is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead day-to-day engineering across its marketplace and advice products. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on predictable, high-quality delivery, team growth, and operational excellence—while partnering closely with Product to drive measurable business outcomes.

What You Will Own

Engineering execution
- Delivery outcomes, technical quality, and team velocity across a Ruby on Rails + React codebase
- Partner with a dedicated Scrum Master to run sprint ceremonies and process
People management
- Lead 6 FTEs and manage 3 full-time contractors through 1:1s, performance feedback, career development, hiring, and retention
Technical operations
- Production stability, incident response, and deployment pipeline health (in coordination with DevOps)
Process maturity
- Improve estimation accuracy, reduce cycle time, strengthen code review and QA handoff processes
- Establish clear engineering metrics and measurement
Cross-functional partnership
- Work with VP Product and Product team (2 Senior PMs, 1 UX Designer) to translate priorities into well-scoped, deliverable work

Key Responsibilities

Align engineering capacity with business priorities and deliver predictable output across the Rails/React stack
Provide clear estimates and tradeoff analysis to inform roadmap decisions
Build a culture of ownership, transparency, and pragmatic problem-solving
Coordinate with DevOps to own production reliability, uptime, and incident response
Drive web performance optimization (Core Web Vitals, page load times, frontend/backend bottleneck identification)
Champion adoption of AI-assisted development tools (evaluate, integrate, and establish best practices)

Qualifications

Required

5+ years software engineering experience
2+ years in engineering management or team lead role
Hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails and modern JavaScript frameworks (React preferred)
Experience managing teams of 5–15 engineers (including remote/distributed teams)
Track record of delivering on predictable cadences in a product-driven environment
Experience managing both full-time employees and contractors

Preferred / Nice to have

Experience improving development workflow metrics (estimation accuracy, cycle time, code review/QA handoff)
Experience with performance optimization tied to user outcomes (Core Web Vitals, load time improvements)
Comfort evaluating and rolling out AI coding assistants into day-to-day workflows
