About the role
Role Overview
Engineering Manager for Radar’s distributed Platform team. You will lead roadmap execution to make Radar’s infrastructure, developer platform, and data systems scalable and highly available worldwide, with a focus on the application layer while bridging application and infrastructure development through automation and workflows.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support a distributed Platform engineering team
- Drive the platform roadmap to improve scalability and availability of Radar services globally
- Build and operate Radar infrastructure, developer platform, and data systems
- Connect application and infrastructure development via automated tooling and workflows
- Manage delivery processes and help ensure fast shipping and customer alignment
Platform/Engineering Stack (Highlights)
- API/application layer: Node.js + TypeScript
- Backend/geospatial database: Rust (HorizonDB)
- Data/infra: MongoDB (Atlas), S3/Athena, Redis, Airflow
- Infrastructure/deployment: AWS (EKS on Kubernetes) with Terraform
- CI/CD: CircleCI
- Monitoring/ops: CloudWatch, Grafana, Pingdom, PagerDuty (on-call rotation)
- Partner ecosystems: OpenStreetMaps, MapLibre, OpenAddresses
Requirements / Qualifications
- Experience leading engineering teams delivering infrastructure/platform systems (distributed team context)
- Ability to drive roadmap execution for high-throughput, data-intensive systems
- Strong grasp of application-layer development and how it connects to infrastructure (automation/tooling)
- (Implied by culture) Customer-focused execution and a high-performance engineering mindset
Nice-to-Haves / Context
- Familiarity with multi-stack engineering and/or a desire to learn across stacks (Radar emphasizes “multi-stack” rather than narrow specialization)
- Comfort working in an on-call environment (most engineers participate in rotation)
- Experience working with CI/CD, monitoring, and operational tooling in production systems
- Openness to responsible AI-assisted development (Claude/Codex used for code review and debugging; standards are not compromised)
