About the role

Role Overview

As the first Engineering Manager at Nebulock, you will lead the team building the core systems that power the Nebulock platform—especially the data ingestion, transformation, and search layers. This foundational leadership role blends people management with hands-on technical direction as you shape architecture, quality standards, and long-term technical strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Technical leadership (data platform):
    • Own the architecture of Nebulock’s data platform.
    • Establish best practices for data modeling, reliability, and performance.
    • Oversee entity correlation systems.
    • Guide development of real-time and batch processing systems.
    • Set standards for building scalable integrations across EDR, IAM, Cloud, and SaaS data sources.
    • Ensure high-quality, well-structured data models that enable threat hunting and detection engineering workflows.
  • Team leadership (backend/data):
    • Build, mentor, and lead a team of backend engineers.
    • Drive execution quality, velocity, and accountability.
    • Foster a culture of high ownership, transparency, and low-ego collaboration.
    • Support recruiting for the data platform team as needed.
  • Cross-functional collaboration:
    • Partner with internal detection engineering and threat hunting teams and product engineers.
    • Translate product/business priorities into a concrete data-platform roadmap.
    • Help shape Nebulock’s broader engineering culture and standards.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years building backend distributed systems and working with data.
  • 1+ years experience managing engineering teams.
  • Proficiency in Python or other backend languages such as Java, Go, Rust, or similar.
  • Experience with AWS or GCP.
  • Deep experience with data pipelines and event-driven systems.
  • Strong system design skills, including data modeling and performance trade-offs.
  • Experience with OLAP databases and large-scale query systems.
  • Proven ability to lead with a consistent, high-quality bar.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, low-ego environment.

Nice to Haves

  • Streaming data processing engines (e.g., Flink)
  • Experience building search systems over large datasets
  • Cybersecurity experience
  • Startup experience

About Nebulock

Nebulock is an agentic threat hunting platform that autonomously discovers security behaviors across multiple telemetry sources, not just indicators of compromise. It continuously hunts across endpoint, identity, and cloud data to generate behavior-based signals and turn them into hardened detections for security teams.
