Engineering Manager, Native App & AI Platform

Role Overview

Engineering Manager for Native App & AI Platform. You lead the team delivering Sequencing.com’s AI health experience across the React Native mobile app and the underlying AI platform. You own day-to-day execution, delivery discipline, production reliability, and team health, while partnering with an AI Technical Lead on architecture and technical direction.

Responsibilities

• Own the roadmap, delivery predictability, and capacity planning across the Native App and AI Platform.
• Drive predictable React Native releases for iOS and Android, focusing on frontend quality, product execution, and customer experience.
• Lead and develop a distributed engineering team through coaching, regular 1:1s, hiring, performance management, and clear accountability.
• Improve app performance, stability, and deployment reliability so customers can trust health insights at any time.
• Maintain clean backend contracts and stable APIs to minimize friction between mobile and platform teams.
• Drive production-grade AI implementation including:
  • multi-agent architecture and planner agents
  • retrieval systems
  • model orchestration
  • latency optimization for real-time responses
• Build evaluation and regression checks into release workflows.
• Set and enforce targets for performance, reliability, and latency.
• Maintain clean architectural boundaries between AI platform and core systems for long-term maintainability.
• Improve resilience and reduce key-person dependencies.
• Lead AI incident response, run postmortems, and implement long-term fixes for dependable handling of sensitive health data.
• Partner with Product, Bioinformatics, and Data to turn AI complexity into plans, accuracy guardrails, and measurable AI performance.
• Communicate clearly with leadership on AI quality and reliability priorities.

Requirements

• 7+ years of engineering management experience in high-complexity, high-visibility systems.
• People leadership experience: coaching, 1:1s, hiring, and performance management.
• Experience leading native mobile engineering teams, ideally React Native for iOS and Android.
• Strong frontend and product delivery instincts for customer-facing mobile execution.
• Experience leading AI infrastructure/platform or distributed backend teams handling sensitive/mission-critical data.
• Familiarity with multi-agent systems: planner agents, retrieval architecture, model orchestration, and ML-backed production systems.
• Strong backend foundation in TypeScript (or similar production environment).
• Proven track record improving execution predictability and engineering team delivery discipline.
• Ability to enforce architectural guardrails and maintain clear boundaries.
• Power-user capability with AI/LLM tools for planning, communication, and process design (required).
• Strong project management and documentation tooling skills, including Jira and Confluence.
• Experience supporting distributed teams in fully remote environments.
• Ability to communicate complex technical details into operational plans for non-technical partners.
