About the role

Role overview

Localize is seeking an energetic, growth-minded Engineering Manager to lead a remote engineering team. You will be accountable for execution across the full software development lifecycle—driving delivery, ensuring quality, and developing engineers through feedback and performance management.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage a remote team of software engineers with a focus on performance, accountability, and delivery
Set and enforce execution quality, timelines, and technical standards; hold teams accountable to outcomes
Oversee engineering deliverables: code quality, testing, debugging, and deployment
Identify and address performance gaps, technical debt, and delivery risks early; take decisive action
Drive performance with direct feedback and technical leadership
Ensure projects deliver on time and within scope in a distributed environment
Apply pragmatic execution and project management approaches to reduce risk and maintain momentum
Improve engineering efficiency by removing friction, unnecessary process, and bottlenecks
Lead architecture and implementation of scalable, maintainable software; review code and contribute hands-on when needed
Partner with leadership to translate business priorities into execution, remove obstacles, and make hard decisions

Requirements

3+ years of people management experience
5+ years in software engineering
Proven ability to lead remote teams with strong execution discipline
Track record of driving results, holding teams accountable, and navigating technical complexity
Ability to make and communicate difficult decisions that support delivery, product quality, and company objectives
Strong skills in goal-setting, measuring progress, and continuous performance improvement
Hands-on leadership: can dive into architecture, code, and technical decisions when needed
Experience hiring and building high-performing engineering teams
Confident operating in alignment with executive leadership and without ego
Experience building and scaling SaaS applications/platforms

Nice-to-haves / Preferred

Experience with the stack (React, Node.js/Express, MongoDB, AWS, Git/Jira/CI)
Hands-on LLM integration into production systems (e.g., OpenAI/Anthropic/Gemini)
Strong prompt/context engineering and token management
Designing/implementing RAG pipelines, embeddings, and vector search
Familiarity with emerging LLM infrastructure patterns (e.g., MCP, tool/function calling, agents)
