Engineering Manager, Infrastructure (Remote, US)

Role overview

Renew Home is hiring an Engineering Manager, Infrastructure for a hands-on leadership role. You’ll lead an Infrastructure team (about 5–8 engineers) that provides the foundation for the rest of the engineering organization, including cloud accounts, networking, security, CI/CD, deployment tooling, observability, and developer experience.

What you will do

People

• Hire, grow, manage performance, and support career development for 7 engineers across three sub-disciplines
• Set expectations, deliver direct feedback, and build a team people want to stay on

Roadmap & operational execution

• Translate company priorities into an infra roadmap balancing:
  • reliability work
  • platform investment
  • security posture
  • continuous “unblock the product team” requests
• Maintain operational health through:
  • on-call rotations
  • incident response
  • postmortem culture
  • ownership of SLOs

Cross-team partnership

• Be a primary point of contact for product engineering, data, and security leadership
• Ensure your team’s platform delivers strong outcomes for internal consumers

Security posture

• Partner with security engineering on identity, access, audit, and compliance
• Ensure security is built into the platform (not bolted on)

CI/CD & developer experience

• Own pipeline, runner, and test infrastructure health
• Drive improvements with automation engineers to reduce build times, flake rates, and increase developer confidence

Budget & vendors

• Manage cloud spend and tooling decisions, including buy-vs-build tradeoffs

Requirements

• 5+ years managing infrastructure/platform/SRE/DevOps teams, with prior IC experience
• Proven ability to run an on-call rotation (clear ownership, useful runbooks, meaningful alerts)
• Experience hiring and growing senior engineers; honest performance management
• Strong production cloud experience with depth in at least one major hyperscaler (AWS/GCP/Azure)
• Strong CI/CD experience plus identity & access
• Ability to prioritize under pressure, including sequencing and declining deferred work
• Ability to operate effectively across teams (product engineering leads, operations, finance)

Bonuses / nice-to-haves

• Experience managing or closely working with security engineers; shaping a security program
• Multi-cloud experience
• Experience scaling infrastructure/platform teams through growth (e.g., 10 → 30 → 100+ engineers served)
• Background in energy, utilities, IoT, or other regulated/SLO-sensitive domains
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and thoughtful rollout across a platform team
