About the role
Role Overview
Join Strava as an Engineering Manager for the Identity Platform. This is a hybrid role where you’ll spend 50% coding and 50% leading, guiding the technical direction of Strava’s authentication and authorization systems while owning the identity platform roadmap.
Key Missions
- Guide technical direction for authentication and authorization systems, contributing code to maintain quality and technical depth.
- Own the technical roadmap for the identity platform, including:
- sign-up, login
- password management
- multi-factor authentication (MFA)
- account recovery flows
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Security, Trust & Safety, and Legal to ensure compliance, safety, and platform integrity.
- Establish engineering best practices and drive consistency across platforms.
- Influence the long-term technical strategy for identity across Strava Group.
Responsibilities
- Design and scale a unified identity foundation.
- Lead teams through complex identity challenges (e.g., session management, MFA, passkeys, RBAC/ABAC models).
- Translate identity vision (trust, safety, privacy, growth) into executable technical strategy.
Requirements
- Experience building identity systems serving multiple applications; strong understanding of token management, session continuity, and cross-app authentication.
- Deep experience building and operating authentication/authorization/account security systems at scale using modern identity protocols and best practices.
- Ability to design secure, low-friction login, sign-up, and recovery flows that balance UX with protection against abuse.
- Track record leading teams through identity challenges spanning session management, MFA, passkeys, RBAC/ABAC, and platform consistency.
