About the role

Role Overview

Join Strava as an Engineering Manager for the Identity Platform. This is a hybrid role where you’ll spend 50% coding and 50% leading, guiding the technical direction of Strava’s authentication and authorization systems while owning the identity platform roadmap.

Key Missions

  • Guide technical direction for authentication and authorization systems, contributing code to maintain quality and technical depth.
  • Own the technical roadmap for the identity platform, including:
    • sign-up, login
    • password management
    • multi-factor authentication (MFA)
    • account recovery flows
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Security, Trust & Safety, and Legal to ensure compliance, safety, and platform integrity.
  • Establish engineering best practices and drive consistency across platforms.
  • Influence the long-term technical strategy for identity across Strava Group.

Responsibilities

  • Design and scale a unified identity foundation.
  • Lead teams through complex identity challenges (e.g., session management, MFA, passkeys, RBAC/ABAC models).
  • Translate identity vision (trust, safety, privacy, growth) into executable technical strategy.

Requirements

  • Experience building identity systems serving multiple applications; strong understanding of token management, session continuity, and cross-app authentication.
  • Deep experience building and operating authentication/authorization/account security systems at scale using modern identity protocols and best practices.
  • Ability to design secure, low-friction login, sign-up, and recovery flows that balance UX with protection against abuse.
  • Track record leading teams through identity challenges spanning session management, MFA, passkeys, RBAC/ABAC, and platform consistency.
