Role overview
Engineering Manager for the Alloy team at Grafana Labs (fully remote). You will lead and develop engineers, partner with the OpenTelemetry collector community, and drive customer success through strong collaboration with product and engineering leadership.
Responsibilities
- Manage and grow an engineering team (provide regular feedback and support individual development)
- Collaborate with the OpenTelemetry collector community to support adoption and success
- Work with product and engineering leadership to guide work through the full project lifecycle (from early ideation to execution and launch)
- Ensure a psychologically safe environment and foster autonomy and high performance
- Ground decisions in customer needs and real-world impact
- Contribute to projects beyond your immediate team’s scope as needed
Requirements
- Solid understanding of distributed systems (scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, observability)
- Ability to manage autonomy-driven engineering teams (technical and/or product-focused)
- Strong customer focus and decision-making grounded in user needs
- Keep up with technical trends to understand challenges teams face
- Comfortable collaborating across time zones and cultures with clear, empathetic communication
- Demonstrated ability to manage complexity, align stakeholders, and elevate team performance
Nice-to-haves
- Domain knowledge in observability and OpenTelemetry sufficient to manage a team closely collaborating with the OpenTelemetry collector community
