Engineering Manager

Role overview

Join GitLab as an Engineering Manager, Infrastructure Platforms. You will lead a team building and supporting secure, reliable, and scalable infrastructure platforms, collaborating with Product Managers and engineering leaders to turn business goals and customer needs into resilient infrastructure solutions.

Responsibilities

• Hire, coach, and develop team members to build a high-performing Infrastructure Platforms team
• Partner with Product Managers and Engineering leaders to translate goals into infrastructure outcomes
• Lead and guide architecture and design discussions, navigating complex tradeoffs with a focus on:
  • Security
  • Performance
  • Availability / reliability
• Participate in Incident Management on-call rotation

Requirements

• Proven expertise scaling large consumer-grade/platform systems with strong emphasis on reliability, security, performance, and scalability
• Experience leading infrastructure/platform/development teams at scale and building high-performing, values-aligned teams
• Strong technical background in infrastructure/platforms, including familiarity with:
  • Kubernetes
  • Ruby and/or Go
  • CI/CD practices
• Ability to deep dive into complex technical problems and communicate clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills with Product and engineering stakeholders
• Demonstrated experience managing remote, globally distributed teams in an all-remote, asynchronous environment
• Alignment with GitLab’s open source culture and values
