About the role

Role Overview

The Engineering Manager will lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable software solutions across 3–5 engineering teams within an assigned engineering pillar. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will provide both hands-on technical leadership and people management, driving execution, engineering culture, operational excellence, and compliance-aligned delivery.

Responsibilities

Lead design, development, and delivery of scalable, high-quality software aligned with business priorities
Provide technical leadership: code reviews, architectural guidance, and technical direction across pillar teams
Manage and mentor 3–5 engineering teams: performance feedback, career development, and support for team leads
Collaborate with product, design, operations, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Oversee reliability and production operations within the pillar, including performance monitoring, testing strategy, and production support
Contribute to documentation, development standards, and continuous improvement of engineering processes

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering (or equivalent professional experience)
5–10 years of professional software engineering experience
Demonstrated experience leading technical projects and pillar-level organizations (or leading multiple teams)
Experience leading teams using Agile (or similar delivery methodologies)
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
Strong knowledge of Ruby and Ruby on Rails (Rails 7 or similar)
Modern web application architecture and RESTful APIs
Relational databases and data modeling (Postgres)
Cloud platforms and production systems
(Healthcare/regulated environment) understanding of compliance-related needs and scalable distributed/service-oriented architectures
Strong software design and coding skills (clean, maintainable, testable code)
Technical leadership, code review, and architecture decision-making skills
Team leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills
Cross-functional communication and collaboration skills
Ability to translate business problems into technical solutions and balance hands-on coding with leadership

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience managing or formally leading engineers and engineering managers
Experience in high-growth startups or healthcare technology organizations

Work Environment

Remote, daytime hours Monday–Friday; occasional night/weekend hours as needed
