Engineering Manager

Role Overview

Join Float as an Engineering Manager to lead the newly separated Bill Pay engineering team. You’ll oversee delivery, team operations, and people leadership, partnering closely with Product to balance near-term execution with ongoing remediation of legacy technical debt.

Key Missions

• Lead the Bill Pay engineering team across delivery, team operations, and people development.
• Partner with Product to make credible quarterly commitments and deliver against them with operational rigor.
• Balance priorities: deliver near-term product outcomes while steadily improving and modernizing the existing Bill Pay foundation (including technical debt and under-the-hood improvements).
• Own observability and monitoring for the systems and customer experiences the team is responsible for.

Responsibilities

• Drive engineering delivery using strong operational practices and delivery discipline.
• Run day-to-day team operations and improve how the team works over time.
• Manage and develop people (hiring, coaching, growth, performance, and team strengthening).
• Make practical technical and cross-functional trade-offs under ambiguity.
• Provide stakeholder communication, push back constructively, and escalate clearly when needed.

Requirements / Profile

• Strong engineering management experience leading teams through delivery, people leadership, and cross-functional judgment.
• Ability to make and meet team commitments across quarters: manage risk, sequence work, and improve team operations.
• Mature stakeholder management skills and clear communication.
• Technical credibility to lead engineers in a full-stack domain with evolving system quality needs.
• Growth mindset, continuous improvement orientation, and willingness to learn.

Nice to Have

• Practical curiosity about AI tools and evidence of using them in real workflows.
• Experience or exposure to payments, money movement, or accounting-related workflows.
