About the role

Role overview

Join Joist (an EverCommerce solution group) as an Engineering Manager. You’ll lead a product development squad building an end-to-end vertical software platform for small and medium-sized trades contractors, contributing from inception through deployment with a focus on rapid iteration and innovation.

Key missions / responsibilities

Contribute to product development from idea to production, ensuring solutions meet current and future needs.
Direct and coach engineers: instill values such as diversity, quality, and accountability, and provide constructive feedback.
Collaborate across departments to solve complex problems using a strong understanding of scalable, robust systems.
Partner with Product Management to experiment, iterate, and ship fast to customers.
Own software projects end-to-end: scoping and estimation through production launch.
Lead in agile software development processes and manage cross-functional squads.

Requirements

Experience managing engineers as a direct manager in a product development environment (2+ years), ideally across multiple technology stacks.
Deep technical communication: explain technical topics clearly and concisely.
Strong record of mentoring and growing engineers.
Proven ability to take ownership of delivery from planning to production.
Passion/experience for Agile, DevOps, and Lean approaches to deliver software and customer value.
Expert in Agile software development processes.
5+ years professional experience as a software developer in agile teams.
Experience managing cross-functional squads including Product Management, Design, and QA/SDET.
Direct experience with one or more of: Ruby on Rails, React, iOS (Swift), Android (Kotlin).
Experience managing engineers across multiple tech stacks simultaneously.
Background supporting teams in multi-squad environments sharing platform/infrastructure.
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar (helpful baseline).

Nice-to-haves

Managing teams spanning multiple technology stacks and shared platform/infrastructure.
Demonstrated ability to balance strong opinions on architecture with openness to others’ input.
