About the role

Role Overview

As an Engineering Manager at EnergyHub, you will lead and mentor a team of engineers responsible for a core part of the platform. You’ll set the team’s mission, vision, and roadmap, provide strategic and architectural direction, and help deliver quality, scalable, well-tested code on time.

Responsibilities

Build, manage, and mentor engineers delivering shared platform capabilities.
Partner with Engineering and Product to define the team’s mission, vision, and roadmap.
Provide strategic oversight for new initiatives and guide technical execution.
Act as a technical partner to Product, QA, Analytics, and client-facing teams, translating cross-functional needs into clear technical plans.
Support scalability, reliability, and architecture as the platform evolves.
Champion a test-first mindset and ensure delivery quality.

Requirements

2+ years of experience directly managing developer teams (ideally 5–7+ people).
Strong computer science foundations and SDLC best practices.
Ability to handle ambiguity in a dynamic environment.
Experience with architecture, scalability, and reliability.
Experience building client-facing APIs and supporting developer integrations.
Belief in test-first development.
Core technical background with tools/tech used at EnergyHub, especially: Java, Spring, AWS (EC2, ECS), MongoDB, PostgreSQL.

Nice-to-haves

Experience with Python and C#/.NET to drive automation and microservices.
Familiarity with test automation.
Experience improving internal tools and backing services for operational/customer-facing teams.
Ability to learn from challenging projects and improve process, resourcing, and coaching.
Experience modernizing legacy implementations with Product partners.
