Engineering Manager - Energy Storage

Role Overview

Engineering Manager for Energy Storage (BESS applications). You will lead a software engineering team building and maintaining Verse’s Dispatch Intelligence stack, with a focus on site-level gateway orchestration, monitoring, and control features for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) deployments.

Key Responsibilities

• Support technical staff developing site gateway software for battery fleet telemetry and control.
• Guide and direct a high-performing team across:
  • site-level gateway orchestration
  • intelligent control systems
  • cloud-based data integration across the energy storage fleet
• Own architecture, development, and operational excellence for mission-critical systems enabling real-time asset observability and control.
• Provide technical roadmap input for site gateway systems, prioritizing reliability, low-latency, and high-uptime operation.
• Partner with energy storage product and project managers to set engineering goals and translate requirements into delivered outcomes.
• Collaborate with product and technical project teams to:
  • prioritize backlog
  • manage hardware/software integration dependencies
  • run or ensure user acceptance tests (UAT)
  • meet contractual customer milestones

Requirements (Minimum)

• STEM bachelor’s degree.
• 3+ years leading and supporting software engineering teams.
• 5+ years hands-on software development for real-time, embedded, or industrial control systems in low-resource environments.
• Strong systems/programming proficiency in at least two of: Rust, C, Python, Go.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, edge computing, and reliable site-to-cloud communication.
• People skills and high emotional intelligence to maintain trust, morale, and delivery velocity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in a technical discipline.
• Experience building complex, uptime- and low-latency-critical systems (e.g., autonomous vehicles, industrial automation).
• Track record of building mission-critical systems (completion of this criterion is truncated in the posting).
