About the role

Role Overview

Engineering Manager for Data Engineering (US Remote) at TRM Labs. You will lead a team building mission-critical data services that analyze blockchain transaction activity at petabyte scale and support TRM’s data platform and intelligence products.

Responsibilities

Lead and develop a team of high-impact data engineers; provide cultural, technical, and hands-on leadership
Coach and mentor engineers and support broader engineering best practices
Own quality and delivery, including end-to-end availability and performance of critical services
Drive work against goals, measurable outcomes, and KPIs
Encourage scalable design, usability, and thorough documentation/knowledge sharing
Resolve production escalations and collaborate cross-functionally to drive incidents to resolution
Partner with management and product teams to plan, estimate, prioritize, and identify risks/opportunities
Build highly reliable data services integrating with dozens of blockchains
Develop real-time ETL pipelines for structured and unstructured data at petabyte scale
Design data models for sub-second latency querying
Deploy and monitor large database clusters for performance and high availability

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent)
5+ years building distributed system architecture (whiteboard to production)
Strong programming skills in Python and SQL or SparkSQL
Experience across the data engineering stack, including:
- Data stores: ClickHouse, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, Redis, Neo4j (examples)
- Data pipelines/workflow orchestration: Airflow, dbt, Luigi, Azkaban, Storm (examples)
- Streaming/data processing: Spark, Kafka, Flink (examples)
- Public cloud deployment/monitoring: Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, Datadog (examples)

AI-native mindset: ability to leverage modern AI/ML tools and workflows to improve engineering productivity and data processing
