Engineering Manager

Role overview

As an Engineering Manager at Crunchbase, you will lead a cross-functional engineering team responsible for delivering end-to-end product functionality. You’ll own technical execution and delivery across the stack while serving as a technical people leader, guiding architecture, scaling systems, and growing engineers.

Responsibilities

• Technical leadership & execution

  • Own the team’s technical outcomes: ensure the right technical discussions, surface risks, uphold standards, and empower the team to build for customers and the business
  • Guide architecture decisions and ensure systems are scalable, reliable, and maintainable as product complexity grows
  • Set and enforce standards for performance, quality, and observability across the stack
  • Lead technical design discussions and code reviews to ensure sound engineering decisions
  • Drive operational practices: monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement for reliability
  • Make pragmatic tradeoffs between speed, quality, and scope with explicit risks/constraints
  • Support AI-enabled product experiences by partnering with backend and data teams to integrate AI features into performant UI experiences
  • Partner with Security and Compliance to meet regulatory and internal security requirements (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR)

• Team leadership

  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering team: set expectations for ownership, execution, and collaboration
  • Provide regular feedback and coaching; support individual growth and performance
  • Hire and retain engineers; contribute to a consistent hiring process
  • Create a culture of autonomy with accountability for outcomes
  • Identify and address performance issues directly and constructively
  • Foster a team culture centered on pragmatic decision-making, continuous improvement, and shared ownership

Requirements

• Strong engineering judgment and technical execution leadership across the stack
• Ability to guide architecture and delivery while maintaining technical credibility (“keep your technical chops”)
• Experience in technical people leadership: feedback/coaching, performance management, and hiring

Nice to haves

• Experience supporting AI-driven or AI-enabled product experiences
• Familiarity with compliance/security frameworks such as SOC 2 and GDPR
