Engineering Manager

Role overview

As an Engineering Manager at Crunchbase, you will lead a cross-functional engineering team responsible for delivering end-to-end product functionality across the stack. This is a technical people leadership role focused on execution quality, scalable architecture, and building a healthy, high-performing team.

Responsibilities

Technical leadership & execution

• Own the team’s technical outcomes by ensuring the right technical discussions happen, risks are surfaced, and engineering standards are upheld.
• Guide architectural decisions to keep systems scalable, reliable, and maintainable as product complexity grows.
• Establish and uphold standards for performance, quality, and observability across the stack.
• Lead technical design discussions and code reviews to ensure sound engineering decisions.
• Ensure strong operational practices, including monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement of reliability.
• Make pragmatic tradeoffs between speed, quality, and scope, keeping risks and constraints explicit.
• Support AI-enabled product experiences by partnering with backend and data teams to integrate AI features into performant, user-friendly interfaces.
• Partner with Security and Compliance to help ensure infrastructure meets regulatory requirements such as SOC 2 and GDPR, plus internal security standards.

Team leadership

• Build and lead a high-performing engineering team with clear expectations for ownership, execution, and collaboration.
• Provide regular actionable feedback and coaching to drive growth and performance.
• Hire and retain engineers through a thoughtful, consistent hiring process.
• Create an environment enabling increasing autonomy while maintaining accountability for outcomes.
• Identify and address performance issues directly and constructively.
• Foster a culture of pragmatic decision-making, continuous improvement, and shared ownership.

Requirements / expectations

• Strong engineering judgment and ability to guide architecture and delivery.
• Technical proficiency to maintain credibility in a technically deep leadership role (even if you won’t own implementation continuously).

Nice-to-haves

• Experience integrating AI-driven features into user-facing systems.
• Familiarity with security/compliance expectations such as SOC 2 and GDPR.
