About the role

Role Overview

As an Engineering Manager at Crunchbase, you will lead a cross-functional engineering team delivering end-to-end product functionality across the stack. This is a technical people leadership role focused on execution, architecture guidance, and building a healthy, high-performing team.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Execution

Own the team’s technical outcomes by ensuring the right technical discussions happen, risks are surfaced, and standards are upheld
Guide architecture decisions to keep systems scalable, reliable, and maintainable as product complexity grows
Establish standards for performance, quality, and observability across the stack
Lead technical design discussions and code reviews to ensure sound engineering decisions
Drive strong operational practices: monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement
Make pragmatic tradeoffs between speed, quality, and scope while making risks/constraints explicit
Support AI-enabled product experiences by partnering with backend and data teams to integrate AI-driven features into performant, user-friendly interfaces
Partner with Security and Compliance to ensure infrastructure meets regulatory requirements (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR) and internal security standards

Team Leadership

Build and lead a high-performing engineering team; set clear expectations for ownership, execution, and collaboration
Provide regular, actionable feedback and coaching; support growth and strong performance
Hire and retain talented engineers and contribute to a consistent hiring process
Enable increasing autonomy while maintaining accountability for outcomes
Identify and address performance issues directly and constructively
Foster a culture of pragmatic decision-making, continuous improvement, and shared ownership

Requirements & Expectations

Strong engineering judgment with the ability to guide architecture and delivery
Maintain technical proficiency while focusing on people leadership (ongoing hands-on ownership is not required)

Nice-to-Haves

Familiarity working on AI-enabled product experiences and cross-functional integration with backend/data teams
