Engineering Manager, Core Product

Role Overview

Engineering Manager for Discord’s Core Product Engagement team. You will lead a team of full stack engineers building core product experiences that help users connect with friends and succeed on the platform.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, UX Research, and Marketing to drive the team’s vision and roadmap
• Make first-principles resourcing decisions and clearly communicate the rationale to partners and the team
• Partner with org leadership on strategic planning and improvements to the engineering organization and workplace philosophy
• Drive product decisions with goals and quality bar in mind
• Use technical expertise to move fast, make tradeoffs, and ensure high-quality delivery
• Stay hands-on: write code, pull data, brainstorm solutions, and make direct product/technical changes as needed

Requirements

• 5+ years as a Software Engineer working across the stack (mobile, web, backend) to build user experiences
• 2+ years as an Engineering Manager leading teams of 5+ engineers on user-facing products
• Strong product sense and customer understanding
• Experience working in teams with clear metrics goals
• Goal-oriented leadership, growth mindset, and a drive to help engineers succeed
• Comfortable being a “manager who can code” and deeply understand the product

Bonus Points

• Experience on social or messaging consumer products
• Experience with React Native

Location / Work Model

• US-based; can be remote
• If living in the Bay Area, you can work from the SF office

Compensation

• US base salary range: $248,000–$279,000 + equity + benefits (base salary only listed in range).
