Engineering Manager (Core)

Role Overview

Fieldguide is hiring an Engineering Manager (Core) for the Core team. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will lead a full-stack engineering team building core Enterprise product capabilities. The position is designed to balance people management with technical depth (about 70% management / 30% coding).

Key Missions

• Lead and manage a full-stack engineering team focused on core Enterprise product development.
• Ensure effective execution across multiple workstreams.
• Contribute to architecture and stay close to the code.
• Drive strong engineering execution across:
  • fast-turn product requests
  • multi-quarter initiatives
• Help adopt effective and safe ways of using AI in engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Support and manage engineers; coach and enable a high-functioning, established team.
• Guide implementations, weigh in on architectural decisions, and contribute code.
• Operate effectively in environments with many concurrent priorities and cross-functional requests.
• Introduce team-level best practices for AI-assisted development.
• Work in a distributed, remote-first setting.

Requirements / Profile

• Hands-on leader comfortable balancing people management and technical contribution.
• Ability to code and guide implementation while contributing to architecture.
• Experience leading in high-priority, cross-functional environments.
• Excited to build with AI tools and help teams develop practical processes for using AI well.
• Strong modern full-stack background, especially:
  • React
  • TypeScript
  • Postgres
  • Hasura
• Strong coaching and operating skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience introducing AI-assisted development best practices at team level.
• Familiarity with audit, compliance, or similar workflow-heavy product domains.
