Engineering Manager

Role overview

Join Confluent as an Engineering Manager to lead a team building and scaling the secure compute layer of Confluent Cloud. You’ll set the multi-year roadmap, provide hands-on technical leadership, and develop a culture of technical excellence and ownership.

Responsibilities

• Own the strategic vision and multi-year roadmap for the Secure Compute Platform, aligning infrastructure foundations with company growth.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership across distributed systems, Kubernetes, and container-based runtimes to deliver world-class security and scale.
• Cultivate technical excellence and ownership within a high-performing, inclusive engineering team.
• Lead, mentor, and scale a team of 6–8 engineers.
• Hire with a high bar, motivate engineers, coach/mentor, and manage performance.
• Influence peers and upper management through effective communication and collaboration.

Requirements

• Proven ability to ship features on time with strong prioritization and urgency.
• Experience designing resilient systems at scale on hyperscale CSPs (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Demonstrated expertise in secure, high-performance distributed systems.
• Deep technical proficiency in Kubernetes, container internals, and lower-level systems.
• Understanding of API governance frameworks for consistency, security, and reliability.
• 10+ years software development experience and 3+ years management experience.
• BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Track record contributing to or maintaining foundational open-source projects in cloud-native/distributed systems (e.g., CNCF, Kubernetes).
• Experience with AI-driven infrastructure automation and building an engineering community that adopts innovative platform technologies.
