Engineering Manager (Cloud & Data Security)

Role Overview

Join Airbnb’s Security Engineering organization as an Engineering Manager for Cloud & Data Security. You will lead a team of security engineers responsible for securing Airbnb’s cloud infrastructure, data platforms, and sensitive data access controls.

Key Missions

• Lead and grow a security engineering team focused on:
  • Cloud infrastructure security
  • Data security
  • Identity and access controls
• Set and drive the team’s roadmap aligned with organizational security priorities, balancing:
  • Embedded partnership
  • High-leverage automation
  • Long-term “paved-road” investments
• Partner across teams (Infrastructure, Data Platform, Application Security) to embed security into how Airbnb:
  • Builds
  • Deploys
  • Operates systems

Requirements

• Deep understanding of modern cloud security practices (AWS or comparable), including:
  • IAM
  • Network security
  • Secrets management
  • Workload identity
• Engineering experience: 9+ years total, including:
  • 5+ years in Security Engineering or a related infrastructure discipline
  • 3+ years in people management leading Security Engineers
• Strong technical judgment across infrastructure security domains, including:
  • Kubernetes
  • Container security
  • Infrastructure-as-Code
  • Cloud-native detection and prevention controls
• Proven experience coaching and growing engineers (performance management, career development, constructive feedback)
• Strong communication skills, including explaining complex technical decisions to executives and cross-functional partners
• Familiarity with securing data platforms and pipelines (access controls, encryption, data governance patterns)
• Ability to work as an embedded security partner with infrastructure/platform teams

Nice to Have

• Enterprise security experience in areas such as identity, endpoint, and corporate infrastructure (not required).
