Engineering Manager

Role overview

As an Engineering Manager at ClickHouse, you’ll lead the Language Clients team in a high-ownership role. You will shape both product direction and execution strategy, expand into the broader open-source ecosystem, and build strong cross-team relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit, coach, and develop a high-performing, high-bar team
• Set crisp expectations and drive a culture of ownership, speed, and continuous improvement
• Own product & execution strategy for language clients to keep pace with rapid growth
• Make opinionated architectural decisions while maintaining a customer-focused, fast-shipping culture
• Expand beyond core client libraries into a broader ecosystem:
  • Integrations, SDKs, partner tooling, and community-built extensions
  • Establish and sustain effective collaboration with open-source communities

Requirements

• Open-source & product mindset
  • Experience collaborating with OSS communities and earning trust in public technical spaces
  • Demonstrated external representation (e.g., talks, blog posts, community engagement, partner development)
  • Strong product ownership: setting direction, not only executing
  • Customer-centric approach: convert developer feedback into roadmap items and ship fast with tight feedback loops
• Technical excellence
  • 10+ years building developer-facing tools, open-source software, or data-intensive systems
  • Hands-on involvement in technical designs, code reviews, and technical guidance
  • Strong interest in staying on the technology edge (developer tooling, data, and OSS)
• Leadership & execution
  • 3+ years managing software engineers (hiring, developing, retaining)
  • Ability to grow engineers into senior contributors and future leads
  • Comfortable delivering in ambiguous environments: set priorities and drive impact without excessive process
