Key Missions / Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 6–10 engineers to deliver projects aligned with business objectives and maintain feature continuity between Chromatic and Storybook.
  • Partner with the engineering management team to evolve company culture and engineering processes.
  • Collaborate with the Product team to prioritize upcoming projects.
  • Mentor and support engineers’ growth; establish onboarding procedures for new hires.
  • Support team growth and hiring as needed.

Requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication; can collaborate productively in a distributed, asynchronous setting.
  • Proven ability to lead across time zones with empathy and interpersonal effectiveness.
  • A growth mindset; “strong opinions, weakly held” approach (pushes back constructively, handles critique well).
  • Execution mindset: stays accountable, manages distractions, and ensures consistent progress.
  • Genuine interest in developer experience (DX) and/or prior experience serving front-end teams’ needs.
  • 3+ years of experience managing a software engineering team.
  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience in web development.
  • Experience working effectively in remote-first/distributed teams.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience managing engineering teams in the developer tooling space.
  • Experience with Storybook or Chromatic.
  • Background reflecting a non-traditional path into software (insight from experiences beyond engineering).
