Engineering Manager

Role Overview

ButterflyMX is seeking an Engineering Manager (Software Engineering) to lead a software team building world-class products for the built world—helping enable smartphone-based access for residents, property managers, and developers.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering Leads to define key results, align team goals with company objectives, and maintain a clear vision and roadmap.
• Adapt and evolve Agile processes to fit team and project needs.
• Drive continuous improvement by identifying bottlenecks and accelerating delivery.
• Support, mentor, and coach engineers; lead by example to improve code quality, design, and system architecture.
• Collaborate with QA to uphold high-quality releases and improve software reliability.
• Proactively address team interpersonal challenges and manage performance.
• Align coaching efforts with engineering best practices across the team.
• Assess team composition, identify hiring needs, and work with recruiting to optimize interview loops and hiring best practices.
• Ensure engineers understand how their work maps to broader company goals.
• Define, document, evolve, and evangelize engineering standards and best practices across multiple areas.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• 3+ years of managerial experience, including setting goals.
• Strong familiarity with Agile and the value of well-written, clearly defined user stories.
• User-focused mindset with attention to performance, security, and usability.
• Experience delivering frequent value via collaboration with product owners, with preference for MVPs and tight build-measure-learn loops.
• Ability to work across both front-end and back-end components and systems.
