About the role
Role Overview
Engineering Manager (Remote from the Philippines), reporting to the Head of Engineering. You will lead and grow frontend engineering while owning technical strategy and improving developer productivity across the SDLC.
Responsibilities
Lead & Grow the Team
- Mentor frontend engineers across levels (drive hiring, run 1:1s)
- Build a diverse, high-performing team
Drive Technical Strategy
- Own frontend architecture and the tech radar for Next.js, React, TypeScript
- Lead design reviews
- Contribute to code/PRs when appropriate
Champion Developer Productivity
- Reduce SDLC friction and streamline workflows
- Design CI/CD pipelines and automate development workflows
- Integrate DX tooling using Turborepo/Nx
- Use DORA metrics to drive continuous improvement
Ensure Quality & Reliability
- Enforce best practices for:
- Component design and state management
- Accessibility
- Testing practices
- Incident management
- Operate effectively in a compliance-heavy environment
Partner Cross-Functionally
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Backend, and DevOps on:
- Roadmaps
- API contracts
- Infrastructure
- Communicate technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Requirements
- 7+ years software engineering experience
- 2–3+ years in engineering management or tech lead role
- Deep expertise in React (hooks, context, performance patterns, component architecture)
- Production experience with Next.js (App Router, SSR/SSG/ISR, API routes, middleware)
- Strong TypeScript skills (generics, utility types, strict-mode codebases)
- Demonstrated experience automating development workflows (CI/CD, code generation, testing infrastructure/release tooling)
- Frontend performance knowledge (Core Web Vitals, bundle optimization, lazy loading)
- Testing experience:
- Unit tests with Jest
- Integration/E2E with Playwright/Cypress
Nice to Haves
- Design systems and component library maintenance (Storybook)
- Edge computing patterns/platforms (AWS Lambda, Cloudflare Workers)
- DX or platform engineering background
- Observability tooling (Sentry or Datadog)
- Experience scaling frontend teams in high-growth startups/scale-ups
