Engineering Manager

Role Overview

As an Engineering Manager (player-coach), you will lead and grow a backend engineering team while staying hands-on in the architecture and development of complex financial systems. You’ll set technical direction, mentor engineers, and collaborate closely with product, compliance, and other engineering teams.

Key Missions

• Contribute to the technical direction and architecture of complex financial systems.
• Manage backend engineers, foster a culture of technical excellence, and support continuous growth.
• Design and implement systems for:
  • Payment processing
  • Fraud detection
  • Compliance

Responsibilities

• Drive cross-domain engineering solutions and alignment across teams.
• Serve as a player-coach, balancing technical execution with people leadership.
• Translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
• Support hiring, onboarding, and growth of engineering talent.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building complex, production systems.
• 2+ years leading an engineering team (including performance management and hiring).
• Proven ability to solve complex, cross-domain production engineering challenges.
• Experience with distributed systems (event-driven architectures, microservices, high-scale design).
• Database design experience with both NoSQL and SQL.
• Understanding of financial regulations such as AML, KYC, PCI DSS (or similar).
• Strong systems thinking and comfort navigating ambiguity.
• Experience with third-party integrations.

Nice to Have

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
• Strong background in high-scale/large transaction volume systems.
• Experience with banking integrations and financial APIs.

Tech & Architecture

• Python (Python 3) and web frameworks/APIs.
• Google Cloud Platform (or similar cloud platforms).
• Architecture patterns: Domain-Driven Design (DDD), Clean Architecture, CQRS.
