About the role

Role overview

Engineering Manager for Application & Checkout at a partner company, supporting the end-to-end customer application and purchase experience for a life insurance journey (application through policy issuance). You will lead a distributed full-stack team in a high-stakes, revenue-critical environment, balancing delivery speed with technical excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a distributed full-stack engineering team delivering customer-facing application and checkout features.
  • Partner with product, design, TPMs, and cross-functional stakeholders to define, prioritize, and execute the roadmap.
  • Drive end-to-end delivery across frontend, backend, APIs, and data systems for the application-to-issuance lifecycle.
  • Contribute to system design, code reviews, architectural decisions, and incident resolution when needed.
  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices, continuous improvement, and ownership.
  • Identify and deliver platform/product improvements to improve performance, scalability, and UX.
  • Use data-driven insights and metrics to monitor performance, track SLAs, and guide engineering priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 5+ years software engineering experience, including 1+ year in formal engineering management or team leadership.
  • Strong full-stack proficiency across:
    • Frontend: React, Next.js or Remix
    • Backend services: Go and/or Python
    • APIs and databases
  • Solid knowledge of the full SDLC: design, development, testing, deployment, and operational support.
  • Proven ability to lead high-performing teams and deliver consistently in fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to contribute directly to code and engage in architecture discussions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing shifting priorities.

  • Experience using GenAI tools to improve engineering workflows and productivity.
